Saturday was great fun to have the Apple Needlepointers (ANG Chapter central PA) come to visit. Several months ago I was fortunate to have Melita Glavin (ANG Mainline PA chapter) suggest to the Apple chapter to visit my shop for their 2013 Retail Therapy Excursion (do love this term). Melita suggested if she designed a small project would I offer this as a 45 minute mini work shop allowing the members to try out some new threads. I said sure and Melita came up with a clever little project. Since the idea was to try out new threads no two apples had to be alike and it was a great way to learn what threads can and can’t do on an unpainted 13 count canvas. I chose shaded Very Velvet, Brown Paper Packages Stardust, Petite and Regular Frosty Rays, River Silk ribbon and Painters Thread Perle 5. With lazy daisy seeds in Trebizond. Melita thought of a quick finishing solution using the gold ornaments available from Lee Needle Arts. Below are two I stitched one into a coin purse and the other in the gold ornament. To make it look a bit more complete I shaded the bare canvas with soft pastels and then did a skip in gold Kreinik. It was a huge hit and talk is Melitas’ design may become their chapters name badge. While looking for some quick self finisheing ideas for the Apple ornaments I came across these new magnets / coasters by Lee. Thinking how perfect for the apple! However they are larger than I expected. Coming with a clear acrylic cover they are perfect as a coaster. Here they are shown with a Phillies ornament and the Red Sox by Keep Your Pants On. The other pleasant surprise this week was the arrival of back ordered canvases by Katie Molineux, mastermind behind Shorebird Studio. Its always a pleasure to have a little beauty around.
