I find this to be a remarkable piece that I can picture on a generous size footstool or wall hanging. It is a design of Hope Hanley who’s name goes back to the 1960’s as being a prominent figure in the art of needlepoint. Aside from having been the author of some decent books on technique the designs available today are quite stately. Canvas is stitched painted on 13 count and design measures 16″ x 22″. In her brief bio on the end paper in “Needlepoint” published in 1964 by Scribners it reads that she hopes her book will “help to rescue needlepoint from drowning in a sea of pink cabbage rose cushions and seat covers”. Does anyone know if Hope Hanley is still alive today?
