Description
The Meringue White collection includes 9 skeins of Soie d’Alger 6 ply silk floss by Au Vers Soie. This is some of the finest silk floss available specifically made in France for surface embroidery. Each skein is 5 meters. Blanc Optique is the whitest white, closer to a snow white in comparison to Rainbow Gallery 800, Vineyard Silk White or Pepper Pot Salt. The feature picture was taken outdoors in shadow, the gallery picture was taken outdoors in full sun. Alger silk, 7 strands, in a palette of 605 colours for embroidery and tapestry, available in 5, 8 and 45 meter skeins or 100 gram hanks (About 390 metres). This silk is loosly plyed and can be split easily. It doesn’t come from Algeria. The name “Alger” refers to a special domestic process.
It is made of the best quality spun silk (called strusas) which gives it an unrivalled regularity, lustrous and softness. Contrary to our competitors, our thread does not snarl in the needle and has a good tensile strength. It resists also very well to abrasion. We make great care, great pains to see that this product is properly made. It is considered as a reference thread in all needlework activities.
Dyed in skeins to guarantee an homogeneous colour, it is put on cones, 5 m pull-skein, 45 m. hank.
In 1890, our Soie d’Alger colour chart had 2688 different colours gathered in 107 sets. It is precisely this chart which is used to add new colours.
